Certifications and Classes Offered by Public Safety Training & Development.

Fire Officer I

The Fire Officer I series provides future and first-line supervisors with the education, skills, and tools necessary to meet the job requirements under NFPA 1021.

Fire Officer II

The Fire Officer II series provides supervisors with an enhanced look into job responsibilities associated with multi-unit supervision and management. The seven course series provides supervisors with a first-look at the duties and responsibilities being a manager and a leader; meeting the requirements under NFPA 1021.

Fire Officer III

The Fire Officer III series is intended for Chief Officers fulfilling the role of Administrative Officers. The coursework provided meets the requirements under NFPA 1021. During this five-course series, future and current Chief Officers will demonstrate skills necessary to develop successful strategic plans, develop budgets and understand finance, understand and recognize ethical and legal aspects of their authority, and be able to recognize unforeseen challenges that may adversely impact their organization.

Fire Officer IV
The Division defines a Fire Officer IV as a person having the responsibilities of a Department
Head or Chief Officer with significant leadership responsibilities for an organization. The Fire
Officer IV may also be referred to as an Executive Fire Officer.

Fire Inspector I

The FireSafety Inspector I series is designed to develop the skills necessary to be in integral part of the Fire Prevention and Education concepts established by fire department agencies.

Fire Inspector II

The FireSafety Inspector II series is an advanced-level certification; above that of a FireSafety Inspector I. This advanced coursework will provide current FireSafety Inspector I’s with an in-depth knowledge of skills associated with performing job-duties as a FireSafety Inspector.

Fire Investigator I

The Fire Investigator series is available for current Florida State Certified Firefighters, FireSafety Inspectors, or Police Officers. During the coursework of this series, students will acquire skills necessary to conduct fire investigations. Developmental coursework includes: Fire Chemistry; Fire Origin and Cause; Fire Protections Systems; and Building Construction.

Apparatus/Driver

The Pump Operator series is designed to provide new and current pump operators with the tools and skills necessary for successful Driver/Pump Operator operations. During this series, students will be instructed on the dynamics of fire pumps and their capabilities, mathematical formulas to accurately supply the correct pressure and volume of water, and understand rules and regulations of safe driving techniques.

FEMA/ICS

Our FEMA and ICS classes are a systematic, proactive approach to guide departments and agencies at all levels of government, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector to work together seamlessly and manage incidents involving all threats and hazards—regardless of cause, size, location, or complexity—in order to reduce loss of life, property and harm to the environment.

Fire Instructor I

It’s not easy becoming a fire service instructor I, and not everyone is meant to become a fire service instructor. However, if you are very passionate about adult learning, education and training, as well as making a positive difference in the fire service and your community, becoming a fire service instructor may be for you!

Fire Instructor II

Fire Instructor III

It’s not easy becoming a fire service instructor III, and not everyone is meant to become a fire service instructor. Fire Code Administrator
The Division of the State Fire Marshal (Division) has developed the Fire Code Administrator
program. This is an advanced training and certification program designed for certified Firesafety
Inspectors having fire code management responsibilities. The program is consistent with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1037 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Marshal (2012).

Safety Officer

This is an advanced training and certification program designed for individuals having health and safety responsibilities. This program is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer. This program is intended to prepare individuals for service as fire department Health and Safety Officers and Incident Safety Officers.

Aerial Ops

It’s This course curriculum can be designed around the requirements of the requesting fire department. Classroom lectures and practical exercises are conducted in the principles and uses of aerial apparatus, including the recognition of hazards which may be present during aerial operations. The curriculum also includes classroom lectures and exercises in the principles, uses and tactical and safe placement of platform apparatus.
